City of Aalen is an illustrious city of German state of Bade-Wurttemberg, with the population of 66,000. Spread over an area of 14,662 hectares, together with agricultural land and forest, it is ranking seventh position in Baden-Wurttemberg. Placed on the upper reaches of the River Kocher, this city is close to the hilly landscape of the Ellwanger Berge. The altitude at the center at market square is 430 meters, the lowest point is at the Lein River, and the highest point is the Gruenberg’s peak near Unterkochen a 773 m. Major municipalities bordered this city, as Westhausen, Neuler, Rainau, Ostalbkreis, Lauchheim and others. This city has a captivating historical background, and traces of old human settlement, and various tools made of fling, dated back to 8h and 5th BC found on several sites.  A hilltop settlement, golden and silver coins, and various other objects found in different regions of Aalen. Napoleon and Nazis ruled this city, and wars held here frequently in old times.

This city has various famous places to visit. The Fossil Museum is one of them; it contains 1500 stone fossils flawlessly preserved in the Kalk stone of Braunenberg above Wasseralfingen. This museum is largest one of that kind in Germany. One another museum is Aalen Limes Museum, which is located at the place of the biggest Roman Cavalry Fort, and about 1800 years old. The Museum Wasseralfingen comprises a local history demonstration and an art gallery.

In the heart of walker area, St. Nicholas Church, built between 1765 and 1767, and it is the only major church there. St. John’s Church is one of the oldest existing churches in the region.

One main tourist destination is historical town hall, originally built in the 14th century. It features a statuette of the “Spy of Aalen” and other figurines, and it becomes a symbol of city.

The market square is the historic hub of Aalen and runs along about 150 meters, and since 1809, it is the site of weekly market. A large market fountain is another place worth to seeing, straight at the northern point of the market square. The Rechaatadter Brunnen Fountain is a fountain, placed in front of the town hall.

The Radgasse is originally a small pond was on its side and its features Aalen’s oldest façade. The Aalen observatory built in 1969, and here guided tours and lectures held regularly.
