The old mining town of Gladbeck belongs to the Emscherzone, located in northern Ruhr area, in North
Rhine Westphalia (NRW) Germany. It belongs to the Recklinghausen district. The superb location on the interface of Westphalia and Ruhr strengthen the class of living, a lively and modern city with outstanding business prospect. The Coal mining started in late 19th century that led the former small village into the industrial era and more people flowed to become the part of prosperity, and now it is the home to around 76,000 inhabitants. The Altes Rathaus is a wonderful place to visit, an administrative building of Old Town Hall expanded and renovated in 2010 and became landmark architecture of the city with its 45 meters high rising watch tower. The New Town Hall Gladbeck is the spacious state of the art office building inaugurated in 2006 and considered the first office building in the state of North Rhine Westphalia.
The fantastic old moat castle is located in the city; date back to the 13th century built by the Knight Ludolfus de Witteringe known as the Schloss Witteringe (Witteringe Castle). The spacious castle building is surrounded by the parks and stadium. The part of the castle is now served as the museum known as the Museum der Stadt Gladbeck (Museum of Gladbeck) and also a quality restaurant. The museum is popular for its large collections of artifacts and historical archeological remnants that reveal the
developmental history, history of mining and origin of the city. The most spectacular exhibits include bison’s skeleton and large collection of precious coins.
There are several churches in the town around nine in number among them six belong to Catholic dialect of Christianity while other five are Protestant churches. The most splendid architectural church building is the St. Lamberti Church which has the high rising clock tower.
Theater and music is the major insignia of the town, not only famous for regular live performances but also institutional training is available. The Town Hall is situated near the Library building and also the Mathias Jacob City Hall, which is the hub for music, theater and comic art.
