The history of Halle is famous for harvesting the Salt and is the largest city of Saxony-Anhalt state. It is situated on the southern part of Saxony Anhalt along the River Saale. It was formerly renowned for the chemical industry. The Martin Luther University of Halle Wittenberg is the combine entity of University of Halle (built in 1698) and University of Wittenberg.
