Heidelberg is situated on the banks of the Neckar river, along a valley covered in generous vegetation,
and the first impression you get is complete harmony between nature and architecture.
The buildings, streets and bridges perfectly integrate the environment in harmony, making it a pleasure to explore every corner or the discovery of new views. For those that come from a large, noisy and polluted city, Heidelberg is enough to remember something close to a paradise. Since 1300 this city is considered the origin of German science and culture, and is also considered as the most romantic city in the country.
The castle you will find there is the most important point of Heidelberg. Leaving from the city you can get there in two ways. For those who want to know a way you can pretty much walk up the hill by the existing track, but it is a tiring climb. The best and quickest way to arrive at the castle is to take the cable car and get off at the first stop. For those who want to see more, you can follow the cable car up later, Malkenkur, where there is a restaurant. The third stop at the end of the line, over the hill, is Königstuhl at 568 m of altitude, with a beautiful view.
Three million people visit the Heidelberg Castle every year and its interior can only be seen in groups led by guides. Although some parts are in ruins, some parts have survived the fire or the destruction imposed on the city in successive wars. Some of its most beautiful spots are the Palace of Rubens, the bookstore, Frauhaus, Friedrich’s Palace and the Palace of Mirrors.
