The historical city in north of Germany, Hildesheim situated in Lower Saxony, located on the banks of River Innerste. Oldest city first mentioned in
815, core economical hub of the region and home to the world’s renowned corporations. It is an affluent cultural heritage, home to the two most important churches in the city which are in the list of UNESCO World Heritage sites. The famous ‘University of Hildesheim’ is located in the city with around 5000 students.
The splendor of the ‘Market Place’ in the city, formerly considered as one of the beautiful market in the world. This spherical market square holds the marvels of historical buildings. The city harshly destroyed during Second World War and reconstructed later, same as the ‘Market Place’ rebuilt in 1990 with its original grandeur. The ‘Butchers Guild Hall’ (Knochenhauer Amtshaus) and ‘Bakers Guild Hall’ (Backeramtshaus) are the magnificent half timbered buildings; the Bakers Guild Hall is now becoming a café. The Gothic style ‘Town Hall’ built in 13th century rebuilt in 1954.
The ‘St. Mary’s’ is a Catholic church which is the splendid church with its Bronze door, and is in the UNESCO World Heritage list. Initially built in 9th century, the Rosebush is the famous and 1000 years old dog rose bush. The ‘St. Andreas’ (Andreaskirche) is the Gothic style church in Hildesheim, this
church has the tall tower, you can climb up and have a picturesque view of the locality. In south of the city another splendid church the ‘St. Godehard Church’ is located, which was built in 12th century, the portico is fascinated with two towers. The ‘St. Lamberti Church’ built in 15th century, a protestant church. The ‘St. Michael’s Church’ another fantastic architecture in the list of UNESCO World Heritage, exemplify the Ottonian architecture. The ‘St. Mauritius Church’ is a catholic church in the city dating back from 11th century.
The symbolic structure of Hildesheim is the ‘Kehrwiederturm’ which is the gateway tower and entrance to the city, this tower holds the exhibition and historical information belongs to Hildesheim. The ‘Knochenhaueramtshaus Museum’ is a fabulous half timbered building housing the restaurant in ground floor while on top it has the wonderful ‘Local History Museum’ displays the artifacts and archives, depicts the history of Hildesheim. The ‘Roemer Pelizaeus Museum’, exhibits the archaeological findings, antiques, chronicles and artifacts.
