Recklinghausen situated in Ruhr area, first documented in 1017 with name as Ricoldinchuson. Reclinghausen is linked to the big waterways by Rhein Herne Kanal. The city is famous in Ruhr area with its renowned industry in southern region and thriving agricultural sector with its blossoming farms and fields. It has the long history of wars and conflicts and the city brutally destructed in Second World War  There are several primitive places and ancient buildings depicts the affluent culture, primeval architecture and history of the Recklinghausen, which attracts the tourist from across the region.  There are very few old houses left in the city, most of these half timbered houses destructed during war, the Ackerburgerhauser a fascinated house best exemplify these old fashioned houses.

Old streets which surround the city center comprising the Wall, you can view the remnants of the Wall still left in the city. The renaissance style ‘Old Town Hall’, building built in 1908, a wonderful building worth a look. The Central Market Square, a tremendous sight with old architecture and a magnificent huge departmental store built in 1930. You can find the decoration of old houses at its prime ambo, specifically buildings that built in 1900, the Pieper which is a perfume shop is the true example of art-deco located in Market Square. Few houses are situated near the glorious architecture of St. Paul Church near Market Square.

The historical ‘Vestisches Museum’ is a marvelous museum in Recklinghausen, exhibiting the artifacts; archives reveal the history of city and the region. The most significant item on display is the mining heritage and remnants of the mining industry. Another captivating museum in the city is the Icon Museum which displays the huge collection around 1,000 orthodox works from different countries as Balkan, Russia and Greece.

The Lohtor Cemetary is the outstanding graveyard dating back to the 19th century, surrounded with a fabled park, the art of décor and a giant sculpture made by Per Kirkeby is located on front side built by around 30,000 bricks. One of the most attractive sights in the Reckinghausen is the Ruhrfestspielhaus, an enchanting theater famous for its hilarious performances. It is the seat of the jazzed festival of international fame and is called Ruhrfestspiele, which held every year in May, an absolute fiesta with its immaculate entertaining activities, the adjoining park and zoo add the beauty to the sight.
