Marvelous city of Weimar is the famous city of Germany, well known for its most outstanding cultural heritage. With the population of 65,000, this city located in the federal state of Thuringia. This city established after World War I.
In the 20th century, it was the cradle of the Bauhaus movement, which created a revolution in design, art and architecture. Weimar is the fourth largest city in Thuringia, and bounded by Jena and Erfurt. This city selected as European Capital of Culture for 1999, by European Councils of Ministers.
Weimar offers a variety of interesting activities, and responds to the inclinations and interests of everyone. Almost all Weimar places of interest and attractions are in short walking distance from each other. It has a vast cultural heritage, and many places in the city have designated as UNESCO World Heritage sites.
This one of the most prominent historic site was home of Schiller and Goethe, which are the most famous German writers and poets. House and museum of Goethe is the most important sight in the city, and Goethe lived in this house for almost fifty years. The furnishing and fittings from the last few years of Goethe’s life have preserved, and for some reasons the number of visitors is
limited. Bauhas museum established in 1919, and I t was the twentieth century most important school of art, design and architect. The German National Art Museum built in 1908 and its building reconstructed many times. Goethe was the director here from 1791 to 1817. The monument of Goethe placed here and always flowers spread over at the foot of monument. Liszt museum, train museum, Schloss museum and Palace museum are also eminent sites for tourist point of view.
Weimar castle is another attraction for art and architect lovers. A large collection of pictures, drawings and coins arranged here, in the castle. Other attractions are Buchenwald Memorial, Nietzsche Archiv and others.
The online market is an annual festival held in October and it is the Thuringia’s largest festival. It held over 3 days and about 300 stalls and more than 100 stage performances gather the whole city. There are several clubs and theaters with live music, and four cinemas including a 3D cinema. This city is part of the Goethe cycle tour route and the IIm valley cycle tour. There are frequent train services to the neighboring cities, and the nearest airports are Erfurt and Leipzig-Halle.
