Wurzburg is situated in Franconia which is located in Northern part of Bavaria, Germany. The city lies on the shores of River Main. Wurzburg with its
population of around 0.13 million inhabitants, an important port city providing the Trans European waterways, Main River connects the North Sea to the Black Sea via Rhine-Main-Danube Canal. The city home to the one of the oldest universities in Germany, the Julius Maximilians University founded in 1402 (University of Wurzburg), renowned for its research laboratory and houses the Wilhelm Rontgen’s laboratory famous for its X-rays discovery in 1895. Being the capital of famous wine region Franconia, the Wurzburg is also renowned for its breweries worldwide, brewing the incredible pilsner beer.
There are numerous historical places and old buildings reflect the rich culture, ancient architecture and history of civic society of the Wurzburg, which captivates the tourist across the region. The most attractive sight is the Wurzburg Residenz, a large residential compound with magnificent building built in 1744; it houses the church ‘Hofkirche’, interior of the church ornate with sculpture and paintings, Treppenhaus and Kaisersaal. The Wurzburg Residenz is the UNESCO World Heritage site.

century, the glorious Renaissance style Neubaukirche, the splendid Germany’s fourth biggest Romanesque style Wurzburg Cathedral of St. Kilian, and the superb Baroque style church of St. Haug Kirche.
The castle ‘Fortress Marienberg’ is situated on a hill across the old bridge on Main River (Old Main Bridge), the immaculate castle building gives the picturesque over view of the river and the surroundings. Initially it was a church first built in 707 AD, which then extended and expanded in 1201 transformed into fortress.
The Mainfrankisches Museum is a historical museum exhibiting archives and artifacts reveal the history of Wurzburg and its citizen covers around 1200 years of history. Another extraordinary museum located in Residence complex is the Martin von Wagner Museum, displaying the huge collection of antiques, paintings, chronicles and sculptures. The Neumunster is the church holding the large collection of sacred art including the church furniture, paintings and sculptures.
When you are in Wurzburg, it’s worthier to visit the second largest winery of Germany the Julius Spital, and made a historic hospital in 1576 by Julius Echter on the site which also houses garden, farm and winery in its courtyard. Moreover, Wurzburg offers the plethora of enigmatic sights, worth a visit.
