Germany has many little gems like Harz, which is popular among those interested in Germany tourism. Harz is a popular holiday destination located close to the capital of Germany, Berlin. Around 100 km in length and 30 km in width, Harz Mountains rise from the North German Plain spreading over the states of Thungria, Lower-Saxony and Saxony-Anholt. It attracts a large number of tourists owing to its natural beauty of valleys, mountains, rich alpine forest, caves, lakes and waterfalls. Harz offers a lot of activities in winter as well and it is the perfect destination for winter sports. It offers skiing opportunities as well as skiing lessons. One can try Alpine skiing as well as cross country skiing in the Harz Mountains. Other sports available during winters include skating, snowboarding, snow tubing, toboggan amongst many more. One can even watch ice hockey during the winter months. There are plenty of resorts and accommodations available in the region but it would be best to book in advance as ski resorts are usually in great demand during the season and the Harz mountain range’s proximity to Berlin leads to a large number of tourists.
The Harz region is also known for water sports like diving and canoeing. Diving in the black water of Oker Reservoir is an attraction for tourists. Many tour operators carry out canoeing tours in the Harz region which are suitable for both children and adults. One can also fish in the clear reservoirs and lakes of the mountains, one has the option of fly fishing as well as coarse fishing in the region.
