Holiday Germany in Berchtesgaden National Park, Bavaria

The Berchtesgaden National Park in Bavaria is a fantastic destination for spending a holiday in Germany. It is the only German National Park that is located in the Alps and it would be a pity to miss it on a trip to Germany. The Berchtesgaden National Park is full of mountains with steep cliffs and high altitude mountain pastures. One can enter the park free of cost and explore it on foot or take a bike trail. The Berchtesgaden National Park also offers park tours, free of cost, in the German language. One can easily tour the park on their own if they have hiking shoes and binoculars as there are information points in the Berchtesgaden National Park which are very helpful.

The Berchtesgaden National Park offers one the opportunity to hike up the high mountains but one must keep the advice of the Bergwacht or mountain rescue service in mind before going on a hike. One must keep weather conditions in mind before attempting a hike. The National Park staff is quite helpful and one should feel free to ask them questions if any. Provided one is in good physical condition and adequately attired with hiking shoes and warm clothing, one is most likely to have a great time hiking up those mountains. Hiking trails in the Berchtesgaden National Park are of different ranges, one can opt for a two hour hike or a whole day hike depending on experience and fitness. If you are travelling with children in trolleys or an infirm in wheelchair, do not worry, as there are specific trails marked out for such conditions as well.

One of  Berchtesgaden National Park’s main attractions is Lake Königssee. This eight kilometer long lake is surrounded by mountains which make it a spectacular sight. One can take a boat to St. Bartholomew church to enjoy the scenery surrounding the lake and head towards a nearby beer garden after visiting the church to enjoy a nice lunch. The journey is more often than not a fantastic experience with the boat guide playing a trumpet that echoes in the mountains. Königssee is one of the cleanest lakes in the world as one will only find electric boats, row boats or pedal boats; also, the sewage from the church and beer garden is carefully disposed into the sewage system to make sure nothing is thrown into its clean pristine water.

The park also offers environmental education which is interesting as well as informative. As it is a very popular holiday destination in Germany, there are plenty of accommodation for groups as well as individuals available around the national park; huts and Inns are available for small breaks, refreshments as well as overnight stay.
