Lake Constance, Germany- Bring Home A Memorable Experience

Lake Constance and its surrounding towns and cities are well known destinations for holiday in Germany. Lake Constance is located in the foothills of the Alps and it is actually composed of three water bodies, two lakes and a portion of River Rhine on which it is situated. Lake Constance is located in the German state of Bavaria as and a part of it is located in the state of Baden-Wurttemburg, parts of the Lake are situated in Austria and Switzerland as well. The scenery is mostly rather serene and rather relaxing but those who want a spectacular view should head towards Allgaeu, located south west of Upper Bavaria.

The many cities that have developed around Lake Constance have their own culture which is worth noting. The city of Konstanz, which is almost split into two by the River Rhine lies on the border between Germany and Switzerland, is a very popular city around the Lake Constance. Konstanz is very popular amongst tourists; the city retains most of its old buildings and architecture owing to its proximity to Switzerland. The easiest way to reach the charming old town is through train. The town itself can be discovered on foot or bicycles, there are plenty of bicycle paths around the city and bicycles can be easily rented at the station.  However, if you do not wish to physically exert yourself, you can opt for the fast and efficient bus service.

Several islands are located on Lake Constance; the most popular one is Reichenau. The island is one and a half kilometer in width and four and a half kilometer in length but it is still the largest island on Lake Constance and has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.  The island itself is covered with vegetation including vineyards. One can also find a large number of old churches on the island. There are guided tours of the island available to tourists but one can easily explore the island on their own on foot or bike. There are plenty of accommodations available on the island for those who want to stay overnight.

Amongst the other cities surrounding the lake, Lindau is fairly popular among tourists as well especially on a sunny day. The city is full of old buildings made of wood and is directly connected to major cities like Munich and Zurich by Eurocity rail. If you want to spend your Holiday Germany outdoor then the cities and island around Lake Constance would be a good choice as they provide one with plenty of options to walk or ride a bicycle while enjoying the beautiful scenery. One can also opt to take cruises on Lake Constance which are offered by plenty of tour operators.
