Almost completely destroyed for the Ally bombing in October of 1943 during the Second World War, Hannover reconstructed itself practically from ruined after the War was over. Neues Rathaus HannoverDue to its excellent traffic planning and its fast reconstruction after the War, to this day Hannover is considered an example.

Around the meeting point Kröpke-Uhr (Kröpcke clock) is one of the largest sidewalks of Germany – with bars, restaurants, art and street music, movie theaters, culture and theater. The cultural center is also a place that invites you to a walk around beautiful houses carefully restored, as well as around the shops and coffee houses.

On their free time the citizens of Hannover like to have fun: for example at the Lake Maschsee party (Maschseefest) or on the biggest shooters party of the world (Altstadtfest), the biggest of the area in Europe, it attracts many visitors, offering a diversified event with art, jazz and rock. And even without the party, the 78 hectares artificial lake is perfect for swimming, sailing and canoeing.

Many people call Hannover the “city of gardens”, referring to the gardens of the Herrenhausen Castle, in the baroque style. Between the 17th and the 19th century, the princes and kings had built many gardens, such as the Grosser

It is well worth it also to visit the new Tropenhaus (Tropical Greenhouse), that was built to replace the old Palm Greenhouse, destructed during the Second World War. Its purpose is not only to show the beauties of the Amazon, but also to contribute to the protection of the environment through the sensibilization of children and adults in regard to this matter.

Another strong symbol of the city are the Nanas, big sculptures in the shape of colorful women, created by the French artist Niki de saint Phale. Seen as provocative, they caused a true scandal when their installation took place in 1974.
