Stuttgart is the capital of the state of Baden-Württemberg in Germany. Stuttgart is quite popular among tourists as it is located
in one of the largest wine valleys of Germany. It is a tourist friendly city with warm and helpful people. The residents of the city will try to help you as much as they possibly can and practice their foreign language skills with you. Those who feel they can speak German must be warned that the dialect spoken in Stuttgart is somewhat different from the usual standard German.
Stuttgart though a big city by any standards has a small town feel about it. There are many festivals held in Stuttgart like the Stuttgart Spring Festival, Stuttgart Beer Festival and Stuttgart Summer Festival. These festivals are extremely fun and enjoyable. It also helps one to get acquainted with the locals and have a more comprehensive travel experience while traveling in Stuttgart.
Stuttgart is famous because of its automotive industry. Headquarters of two of the most famous automotive companies – Mercedes Benz and Porsche are in Stuttgart. Both Porsche and Mercedes-Benz have car museums in the city and they are very popular among the tourists especially those who love cars. The museums are informative as far as automobile history is concerned, showcasing some important milestones as far as popular cars are concerned like the first Mercedes Benz, record setter racing car ‘ Blitzen Benz’ and many more.
The heart of the city houses a
spectacular glass cubicle which is the Art Museum of Stuttgart. The glass walls of the museum provide an amazing view of the city as well as its surrounding mountains. The museum has an impressive collection of Swabian Impressionists as well as contemporary art work of the region. One of its most famous collections is the Otto Dix Collection. Otto Dix was known for his ruthless and harsh but frank portrayal of the Weimar society and this museum houses the most important collection of Otto Dix’s work.
Those interested in art must also pay a visit to the State Gallery of Stuttgart which is not only popular in Stuttgart but one of the most visited museums in Germany. The art collection of the nineteenth century requires special reference as this museum houses some great pieces of work by Rembrandt, Canaletto, Memling amongst other great masters. The New State Gallery on the other hand concentrates on the twentieth century art and contains many contemporary paintings and sculptures along with the art belonging to the category of classical modernism.
The Neues Schloss or the New Castle is a major tourist attraction in Stuttgart, located in the middle of the town. Stuttgart also houses an Old Castle or Altes Schloss, which is also a popular tourist destination. Nonetheless, Stuttgart is an excellent place for viewing castles like Schloss Solitude and Schloss Rosentein. The castles are an interesting piece of architecture.
