Travel Guide Germany – Spreepark Deserted Funfair, Berlin

Germany is an excellent travel destination and one can spend many days in its capital city, Berlin. While there are some usual attractions in Germany that everyone is aware of, Spreepark deserted funfair is an attraction fewer people are aware of. Spreepark deserted funfair was a part of East Berlin. Spreepark was a very popular recreational park but it incurred a lot of debts and had to ultimately close down in 2002 and was closed to the public. Some of the rides were shipped out but others like the Ferris wheel are still standing but they are not repaired or operated. A Travel guide Germany is most likely to have the directions to Spreepark.

Once the park closed down the owners of the park tried to smuggle drugs out of the country through an old broken ride – ‘the flying carpet’ but were caught and sentenced to imprisonment for the act.  Despite this many people find it fun to visit this abandoned site. The rides are rusting and foliage and vegetation is taking over but this has encouraged a lot of people to venture into the park. This activity is not suited to the weak hearted though.

As one steps into the abandoned park, the squeaks caused by stepping on unfamiliar objects can cause the heart to race but don’t let that worry you. Though the park looks haunted which is quite amazing in an eerie kind of way, it is in fact not. Earlier people had to sneak into the park as it was out of bounds and entering was trespassing though that did not stop many people from entering.

One had to be careful not to encounter the watchman of the park but people still come with their camera and bottle of beer to enjoy the seemingly haunted abandoned Spree Park. Now the situation has altered and there are guided tours of the park. The tour is usually conducted by the daughter of the erstwhile owner of the park therefore if you want more details of the park, you could ask her to dish out the details. These tours are usually conducted during the weekend.

On weekends and public holidays, a cafe by the name of Myth Café opens at 11 o’ clock and is open till 6 o’clock in the evening. It is located near the rusty entrance of the park and serves sausages and cold drinks. The unconventional setting of the café makes it a fun outing and the revenue earned is used to revive the park little by little. When the Myth Café is open, the parking orbit a ten-fifteen minute train ride is also available for a fee. The timings can change according to season therefore it would be best to consult travel guide Germany before planning a trip.
